At Pratt Institute, students have access to an incredible range of resources—clubs, events,
discounts, mental health support, fitness classes, career coaching, fabrication labs, and more.
But in talking to fellow students, I discovered a major challenge: many of these opportunities go
unnoticed simply because the information is scattered across emails, posters, websites, and word of mouth.
The Problem
-
Information overload from multiple sources (Gmail, Slack, Pratt website, etc.)
-
Important updates are lost in cluttered inboxes and bulletin boards
-
Low awareness of student perks and resources (e.g., students didn’t even know about discounts at Blick or free on-campus supplies)
This left students missing out on academic support, professional growth opportunities, and community activities that could enhance their Pratt experience
The Solution: A centralized Pratt Omnibus Mobile App—a one-stop platform for students to easily discover events, resources, discounts, and services in real time
-
Researched student pain points through interviews and feedback
-
Defined the problem and structured a solution framework
-
Designed wireframes and mockups for the app interface
-
Planned launch, promotions, and engagement strategies
-
Collaborated with a small team to develop presentation materials and implementation steps
Deliverables
-
Wireframes & app mockups
-
Launch & promotions plan (orientation events, posters, class-to-class outreach)
-
Event proposal for app launch at the Student Union
-
Branded merchandise concepts (stickers, tote bags, notebooks)
Impact
The project demonstrated how design thinking can bridge communication gaps within a large institution.
By consolidating scattered resources into a single platform, the app concept has the potential to:
-
Simplify onboarding for new students
-
Strengthen student engagement with campus life
- Ensure broader access to Pratt’s academic, creative, and wellness resources
